Dear Parents,
It can be said about the first day of school that it is “the first of many times that you will say good-bye to your child” (the attribution for this quote comes from this Gretchen Rubin blog entry).
Parting on the first day of school, especially for our youngest children, can be hard for them – and, I know, for you too.
I promise you two things, and I am hopeful you’ll keep them close to your heart on Monday and the days leading up to 2019-20:
- your children will be in safe, loving and experienced hands at Pinecrest School beginning Monday and every day they are with us
- the best process of saying goodbye – especially on the first day – is similar to a Band-aid being ripped off: the more efficient, the better for everyone moving forward. (You can do hard things!)
Children pick up the energy and vibrations of the adults around them. If you feel anxious or sad, your child might too, and that’s not what any of us want for a first day of school experience at any age.
I also encourage you to think of ways that your children can be independent and increase their feelings of confidence beginning on Monday and throughout the school year. It makes a bigger difference than you may realize, and we love to see these traits grow during a school year.
Thank you for your trust in us. We do not take it for granted, and we won’t stop working hard to earn it and maintain it. Here’s to an awesome 2019-20 school year at Pinecrest!
Onward,
Ms. McDermott
