At Pinecrest School, our small class sizes give teachers the ability to differentiate their instruction to various learning styles, allowing students to progress with confidence. Our challenging academic program utilizes a variety of instructional methods to emphasize problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Our positive social and emotional environment reinforces basic values such as honesty, integrity, respect for others, and an appreciation for diversity and encourages family involvement in the school experience.
Pinecrest fills a unique niche for many families seeking an affordable, alternative educational option for their children. Pinecrest rises to meet these educational ideals and values, maintaining a student to teacher ratio of 9:1, graduating students who rank in the top quartile of every academic area tested (Stanford 10 achievement test) and go on to top secondary schools in the region, such as Congressional School, Trinity School at Meadow View, Bishop O’Connell High School and the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.
Field trips and special in-house presentations are an important part of the K-6 curriculum. Students typically visit local nature centers, science centers, and George Mason University and the Kennedy Center for age-appropriate presentations.
Pinecrest maintains full accreditation with AdvancED / Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). Pinecrest School will go through the re-accreditation process next during the 2018-19 school year. During our last five year re-accreditation process in November 2013, we received outstanding reviews by the AdvancED external review team:
“Observations in the school’s classrooms indicated an impressively high level of engagement and collaboration. Those observations confirmed the school’s commitment to meeting both the educational and emotional needs of its students. Particularly high results were noted in the areas of high expectation environment, supportive learning environment, active learning environment, and well-managed learning environment.”
